The Best Spa in Beverly Hills Has Been a Total Secret…Until Now | Allure
In Los Angeles, and especially in Beverly Hills, spas have a reputation for being fussy and grand in an excessive kind of way. But there's one spot on Beverly Drive (not Rodeo) that's restrained, tasteful—and by far the most luxurious place I can think of to spend an afternoon. Friends have begged me not to spread the word about this oasis where A-list clients disappear behind the unassuming front doors, but it's a secret too good not to share.
Tomoko Spa is a five-star experience from beginning to end. After being greeted and led into a waiting room, you're given water, tea, and a tray of irresistible snacks, such as coconut jelly and chocolate truffles. Then, once you enter your private room (complete with its own shower or bath) and change into a kimono, a massage therapist provides a foot massage as preparation for the treatment. I could have easily drifted to sleep at this point during my visit, but the best part hadn't even started yet.
Owner Tomoko Kurono spent nine years researching and traveling to develop her signature Tomoko Massage. It incorporates a hybrid of techniques that can be tailored to each client's specific requests. Several friends have raved about the stretching portion, but I opted for something a little less active and lot more like the massage equivalent of Ambien. I can't remember if I actually fell asleep or not, which means I probably did. And finally, if you book the couple's room and stay for dinner, the Tomoko staff will bring you Sugarfish sushi with mochi for dessert.
Nothing about the experience seems tired or borrowed. The space itself is so pristine and crisp, it makes you want to go home and organize your closet. And although it's pricey (the Tomoko Massage alone is over $200), it is definitely worth every penny—and I'll certainly be back.
