studio gameiro brings an earthy aesthetic to this wellness club in lisbon
in lisbon‘s estrela district, a vacant commercial space has been transformed into a chic wellness club. the project was undertaken by studio gameiro for a client that was looking to bring an international vibe to a private gym, lounge, bar, café, and spa facilities. in response, studio gameiro created a warm, ‘earthy yet global’ aesthetic, where local craftsmanship and portuguese materials and techniques are shown subtly throughout.

the program ranges from social to intimate and offers a variety of functions. members can work out in the gym or enjoy quieter moments in the private lounge and bar area. the club also offers flexibility of use as it can be used for exhibitions and talks or even private events at night.

to cater to these different functions, studio gameiro has designed spaces with equally different atmospheres, which unfold through the floor plan. upon arrival, members enter a lounge area and are immediately bathed in a welcoming, earthy pallete of tones and materials. the sofa in this space is bespoke, materialized with moleanos stone serving as the base for custom cushions and upholstery.
café area
a sand-stucco finish was applied to all the walls while an exposed concrete ceiling permeates the floor plan. traditional rattan techniques are used as contemporary architectural elements such as dropped ceiling panels and door lintels. subtle nods to lisbon's history and architectural legacy manifest in design elements such as a handrail and rattan doors, inspired by the pombalino style of the 18th century.
reception
as well as the sand-stucco and rattan, the design also features wood, terracotta, and custom cut pieces of moleanos – a sandstone from the center of portugal. when blended togther, the result is an interior that celebrates local craftsmanship and an architectural expression that feels befitting its location.
